The Creation of the Andes

The Andes were created when the submarine Pacific Ocean plates pushed against the American continental plate. The pressure resulted in sierras. Sierras are defined as a mountain range that has a irregular, toothed contour. Sierras are produced when the sedimentary rocks break and pyroclastic materials, including molten granite and igneous rocks, bursts out from below. At this same time, volcanoes on the oceanic plates exploded. To this day volcano and earthquake eruptions are very common.

As a result of all the pushing and the pressure, the complex mountain range was birthed. There are two major chains of mountains with a very deep depression and out of the major chains, many minor chains spurt out.

There has actually been a theory that the Andes Mountains were once a part of a larger mountain range including it and the Rocky Mountains. But after time, plates moved, continents moved, and the mountain range has been separated.

Now, back to my journey.
