diglib: Comments on comments

My personal view is that JQ's and Carol's comments constitute the core of a
workable action plan.

Obviously the work of the Access to Collections group is quite important,
and I might even be so bold as to suggest some internal offering on the
theory of cataloging (as opposed to the nitty-gritty of MARC)

My small experience with computer sci undergrads is that if you mention
databases, their tails wag fiercely; mention PHP and their tails vibrate
like the wings of a hummingbird.

e-Asia has four students working on the project. One is an architecture
grad student who came equipped with a knowledge of Photoshop (which we use
extensively). One is a journalism undergrad who is in charge of
proof-reading and stitching the text/html files into an e-book. Two are CIS
students (grad students who defected to CIS from traditional fields like
chemistry); they have had the basic experience of building a database in
Informix. e-Asia is still too young to differentate itself out of the
primordial slime of scanning/proofing. The only differentiation has
centered on the journalism student, mentioned above, who is a four-month
veteran of the e-Asia campaign. I do anticipate having one of the CIS
students start helping with database things.
