diglib: [Fwd: diglib navigation -- Re: WebDev: important changes for department-levelnavigation]

I've come up with a preliminary navigation scheme for the Digital Library Initiatives / Digital Content Coordinators pages and sent it on to Andrew / webdev.

If you have any input, questions or concerns please get them to me at your earliest convenience.

As I note in the message below, I'm hoping / assuming that we'll be able to revise this if needed prior to the redesign go-live date.

I'll include discussion of this navigation scheme, as well as the general array of pages at http://libweb.uoregon.edu/diglib, as an agenda item for our August meeting.

Hi Andrew --

I managed to get this done this weekend after all.

The attached .txt file has html code for the diglib navigation as well. I implemented the diglib navigation scheme at diglib's
Sitellite homepage, and temporarily made it live:

DigLib: http://newlib.uoregon.edu/diglib/

I haven't had time to get feedback from other members of DCC on this
Navigation setup, so I am again assuming that this can be changed before
the new site goes live.

Dear Council & primary web contacts:

In the process of updating pages, several critical questions have come up about the departmental navigation system. The WebDev group held a special meeting yesterday to review the ways departments are using this system, resolve discrepancies in the way it was being implemented and revise the standard as needed.

First the bad news: Pages already updated using earlier versions of the department nav will need to be revised.

Now the good news: Systems staff will make these changes for you with a server-side include box, customized to your department.

What you need to do:
1) Using the outline below, provide your department's persistent navigation elements. Include a link address for each element. A sample is provided (Special Collections & University Archives)
2) *Send this outline to me (bonamici@uoregon.edu) no later than 8:00 a.m. Monday, July 24. *I am sorry about the short deadline, but this is needed in order to give Systems staff time to create the departmental include box.
3) Be prepared to discuss any needed revisions to your outline with webdev sometime next week.

Again, I apologize for the late deadline and the need for some of you to have your pages revised again. If you have questions about this, please contact me or any other member of the webdev group as soon as possible.
