diglib: DCC Meeting - November 20
DCC is scheduled to meet at 2-3:30 Monday, November 20, in Rowe.
Agenda:
* Updates
* Discussion of the future of DCC:
- Are we meeting our charge?
- How can we encourage broader involvement in DCC activities?
- Do we have a need for formal membership?
The broader question is "is the DCC, as currently constituted, the right
place to discuss policy decisions related to the Digital Library
Program?" The recently held MDLS / Digital Library discussion groups
revealed a great deal of confusion about the role of the DCC while also
demonstrating the need for a group that coordinates and guides digital
library development. It may be that, in its current form, the DCC is
not the place for this coordination to occur.
One thought that comes to mind is the possibility of reconstituting the
DCC to include greater involvement from Department Heads and Library
Administration and to address policy decisions. A sub-group could then
be created that deals with some of the implementation issues that we
have increasingly been focused on.
For additional information, please see the messages posted to the diglib
list on October 11: http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~jqj/diglib/archive/,
and the DCC homepage: http://libweb.uoregon.edu/diglib/digcon.html.
As always, the meeting is open and anyone is welcome to attend.
