Faculty
Instructional Technology Training Group
The FITT (Faculty Instructional Technology Training) Group is an informal group
that represents the support units on campus that have responsibilities in the
area of faculty training, particularly training in the area of educational technology.
It meets regularly (currently the second Tuesday of each month in the Knight
Library MacKinnon Room), and is coordinated by JQ Johnson, Academic Education
Coordinator.
Regular attendees of FITT meetings typically include representatives of departments and schools, Continuation Center, Library and Media Services, Social Science Instructional Lab, Teaching Effectiveness Program, Wired Humanities Project, and Yamada Language Center. Meetings provide an opportunity for the group to share information about projects and pedagogy, and to coordinate activites related to faculty training and development.
The FITT Group organizes an annual Technology Fair to highlight UO faculty use of instructional technology. It also publishes an occasional "Teaching & Technology" newsletter.
One major initiative of the FITT Group during 1998-99 was planning for a faculty training facility. In July, 1999, the "Faculty Instructional Technology Training Center" (FITT Center) was opened in Media Services based on the vision and support of the FITT Group. The FITT Group currently serves as an informal advisory committee for the Center that bears its name.
During 2001-2002, one FITT Group activity was exploring the idea that the university should provide a central service featuring staff with formal training in Instructional Design. Media Services followed up on this recommendation and hired such a staff member as part of its Interactive Media Group.
