Study Unit 1

Basic Word Analysis

We begin our study of English words by

• first, briefly discussing the historical sources of English words; and
• second, learning the basic principles of word analysis (morphology).

Unit 1 Study Plan

• Prepare flash cards or other study aids for Morpheme Set 1. Review morphemes daily while studying the following materials in the order listed. NOTE: our Morpheme Set 1 is not the same as the one in the text book.
• Begin keeping a word journal for Written Assignment 1. Add to your journal regularly while studying the other materials.
