Exercise testing and metabolic rate calculation and cardiac electrophysiology:
We have a Lode Excalibur Sport for adult and young adult exercise applications. We utilize also a Pediatric Corival for our research in children and younger adults. Our laboratory uses a Medgraphics Ultima PFX system for metabolic rate testing (VO2max). We also utilize a Monarch Treadmill with a 12-lead ECG system. |

Doppler ultrasonography:
We use Doppler ultrasonography to make non-invasive measurements of cardiopulmonary function (cardiac output, pulmonary artery pressure, right and left heart function) at rest and during exercise. We also use saline contrast echocardiography to study inducible intrapulmonary shunting. We currently utilize a Phillips Sonos 7500 with our collaborators at the Oregon Heart and Vascular Institute. |

Pulmonary gas exchange and function:
Our laboratory uses two separate MedGraphics systems for pulmonary function testing. We have a 1085D body plethysmograph and an Ultima PFX system. These systems allow for complete assessment of pulmonary function including the ability to measure thoracic gas volume (TGV), airway resistance (Raw), diffusion capacity of carbon monoxide (DLCO) and lung volumes by nitrogen washout. The Ultima PFX system allows for measurement of pulmonary function and exercise-induced flow limitation during exercise. The Ultima system also allows for complete measurements of pulmonary gas exchange. |

Blood analysis:
We have a Siemens blood gas analyzer for direct measurements of arterial PO2, PCO2 and pH, etc., Cooximetry is done with a Radiometer OSM-3, and we utilize a YSI 1500 sport analyzer for measurements of lactate. Whole blood tonometry is done utilizing a Linear Tonometers KGT-3/4 and core body temperature is continuously monitored using an HQ Inc wireless system with ingestible core temperature transmitters. |
