Timothy A. Paul

Timothy A. Paul is associate director of bands and assistant professor of instrumental music education. He teaches courses in conducting, wind band literature, and instrumental music methods. He serves as conductor of the Symphonic Band and associate conductor for the Oregon Wind Ensemble. He joined the School of Music faculty in 2004.

Paul holds the B.M. in music education from Lenoir-Rhyne College and attended the North Carolina School of the Arts for two years as a special student, where he studied horn and conducting. He received the M.M. in music education from Florida State University and the D.M.A. in wind conducting and literature from the University of Colorado.

Prior to his appointment at Oregon, Paul taught conducting courses at the University of Colorado, where he also conducted the Symphonic and Concert Bands. His public school experience includes eight years as director of bands at Leon High School in Tallahassee, Florida, and six years as director of bands at Suwannee High School in Live Oak, Florida. He also served as co-conductor of the Tallahassee Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Ensembles under Paul's direction have performed at the Mid-West International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the Southern Division CBDNA/NBA Conference, the MENC Conference (Southern Division), the Tri-State Band Festival, the Atlanta International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the All-South Music Institute, and the Southeastern United States Honor Band Clinic.

Paul is an active guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician, working frequently with middle and high school honor groups. Notable awards have included the Phi Beta Mu Florida Chapter's Distinguished Director Award, John Philip Sousa Foundation's Sudler Flag of Honor, national winner of the UMI/ASBDA Distinguished Young Band Director's Award, and district Teacher of the Year.

His professional affiliations include College Band Directors National Association, Music Educators National Conference, National Band Association, Oregon Music Educators Association, Phi Beta Mu, and World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles.
