Lillie Wells will teach courses in Suzuki pedagogy and serve as Assistant Director of the UO Community Music Institute. Before returning to Oregon, Lillie was most recently a faculty member of the Suzuki Institute of Boston and a freelance performer on violin and viola in the Boston area. She received her M.M. and completed her long-term Suzuki teacher training with Teri Einfeldt at the Hartt School, where she served as a teacher in one of the Hartt Community Division's outreach programs and presented a master class for visiting high school students alongside Hartt faculty. She particularly values her experience teaching in grant-funded programs in some of Hartford and Boston's lowest-income, inner-city neighborhoods.
At Hartt, Lillie was winner of the Miami String Quartet Competition, replacing the resident quartet's first violinist in a subscription-series concert, and received additional honors for her performance of chamber music. She earned her B.M. magna cum laude from the UO, where she was winner of the University Concerto Competition and received praise from the Register-Guard for her "stellar" performance of the concertmaster solos from Scheherezade in the UO Symphony's collaboration with the Eugene Ballet Company. Lillie's major performance teachers were Fritz Gearhart, Katie Lansdale, and Leslie Straka; her Suzuki teaching has been strongly influenced by the additional mentorship of Shelley Rich and Karin Hallberg. She is currently a member of the Eugene Symphony.
