Language Resources

Below you'll find a collection of language program materials that NILI has developed in collaboration with various tribal organizations. The materials are arranged in a roughly chronological order: resources for planning a program are first, then materials of use to programs which are already up and running, and finally assessment items for language proficency.

Planning

In 2004, NILI organized a survey of tribal language programs. The survey questionaire can be found here. The survey was sponsored by the Spirit Mountain Community Fund.
NILI has written a Tribal Language Program Handbook, sposored by the Spirit Mountain Community Fund. It provides an overview of language program ideas, from start to finish.

Assessment

NILI, in collaboration with the Confederated Tribe of Grand Ronde Indians and the State of Oregon, has developed a set of benchmarks for assessing a language learner's skills in Indian languages. These benchmarks are available here.
