| Consuela primarily advises and counsels students admitted to the University of Oregon through the Undergraduate Support Program (USP). In addition, she does general academic advising.
As the advising liaison for OMAS, Consuela coordinates outreach efforts with community and other campus student resources. The focus of these partnerships is to foster collaboration which further the campus efforts of recruitment and retention of underrepresented groups.
Like her OMAS colleagues she is committed to student empowerment that develops a balanced participation in leadership and coalition building activities. She is one of the faculty advisors to university’s Movimiento Estudinatil Chicano de Aztlan (MEChA), a Chicano-Latino student union; and Mujeres, a Latina student group. She is also a volunteer advocate with the Bias Response Team (BRT).
In 1998 Consuela received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Oregon in Planning, Public Policy, and Management and minors in Political Science and Ethnic Studies. She received her Master of Social Work with a concentration in Community-Based Practice at Portland State University in 2007.
In addition to education equity & access, and social justice, Consuela is interested in the areas of intimate partner/domestic violence, bi/multiracial identity, treatment for opioid addiction, farmworker and union rights, cross cultural coalition building, and interracial relationships and family. Born in Eugene and raised in Alvadore (a small rural town North of Fern Ridge Lake), Consuela joined OMAS in 1999.
