Waging Peace through Text and Music
    Instructor: Robert Kyr
Following the tragedy of September 11th and its aftermath, it is more important than ever for individuals to find creative ways to voice their hopes regarding the waging of peace in the world. In this course, students will take three concurrent "journeys of exploration" that prepare them to write several "texts for music" on the theme of peace. Each student will be paired with a composer from the School of Music who will set at least one of his or her texts. The collaborations by the writers and composers (Clark Honors College and School of Music) will be performed in a concert during spring quarter following the completion of the course.
If you intend to take this course, please contact Robert Kyr as soon as
possible (rkyr@oregon.uoregon.edu) so that a composer from the School of Music can be selected to collaborate with each Clark Honors College student.

    Deviance, Social Control, and Crime
    Instructor: Douglas Card
Because of the events of September 11, Soc 380 Deviance, Social Control, and Crime, has been modified to include a significant amount of material on  terrorism. While part of the course will cover the typical sociological topics found in a "normal" deviance class, the second part will focus on international terrorism, with studies from all parts of the world.

The University Senate Ad Hoc Committee serves to coordinate and faciliate informed discussion, from a variety of perspectives, on the events of September 11th and their aftermath.  The Committee does not take positions on issues of policy, politics, or ideology.  To ensure its neutrality, the Committee will provide clear identification of the specific sponsorship of campus activities by the groups that carry them out. In all cases, the content of remarks and materials relating to these issues are the responsibility of their sponsors, and do not reflect an official position of the Ad Hoc Committee or the University of Oregon.
