Teacher Help Page

This webquest was designed for use with Elementary school students particularly to be used with fourth and fifth graders. It is intended to teach students not only about Hedgehogs and give them some idea of the responsibility it takes to take good care of a pet, but also to give them practice working with someone else, using the internet, having some more freedom with the way that they design their poster, note-taking, reading with comprehension/for understanding and giving them a sense that what they do can change or affect an adult’s decision a.k.a. what they think does matter.

Before students engage in this web-quest they need to be able to read, know the basics of navigating the internet i.e. how to use links and the ‘back’ button, as well as follow directions and work with others.

I would anticipate students needing around two hours of computer time to complete this assignment.

When it comes to grading the poster very good work will stand out in that it will have extra Hedgehog trivia, be well organized, visually appealing, and informative. You will be able to tell that it was a collaborative project with input from both of the partners.

Good work will have all of the required pieces of information present, with a good effort put forth, and a poster finished on time.

And work that isn’t so good will be lacking one or more of the requirements, wont be completed on time, and will either have little effort put forth or wont have been attempted at all.
