How Do We Take Care Of The Newest Member Of Our Classroom?

I woke up this morning and found this animal in my backyard. It wasn’t moving and was curled up in a ball. I took it to the veterinarian and they told me that this animal is called a Hedgehog and that they curl up into balls sometimes when they are cold, scared, angry, or sleeping. I thought we could make her our class pet but I don’t know how to take care of her. The Principal said that if we can figure out how to take care of her we can make her the newest member of our classroom. I could really use your help!

Our mission is to find out as much information as we can about Hedgehogs and present it in a clear concise way so that we can show the Principal that we are dedicated to taking care of our Hedgehog. The following pages will provide us with the information we need and then we will get into pairs and create posters that have both information on Hedgehogs in general as well as information on how to care for them. We will post these around the school so that everyone can care for the newest member of our classroom, and our school!

To begin click on the “Information and Trivia” link below. After completing all the steps on that page follow the link to the next page where you will learn about the physical characteristics of a Hedgehog and draw a picture labeling the major parts of a Hedgehog. Finally you will follow the link to important information about housing and diet of the hedgehog as well as common physical conditions and diseases to watch out for. Along the way you will gather and compile information the will eventually appear on your posters and around the school!

Lets get started!
