I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Political Science at the University of Oregon with a primary focus on international politics.  My theory interests broadly involve international cooperation, international institution formation, research design, and the intersection of qualitative and quantitative methodologies.  Substantive interests involve international security, international environmental politics, and international human rights.  My dissertation project examines the influence of rhetoric and framing on international agenda setting in environmental politics.  The research lies at the intersection of framing and agenda setting research.  The dissertation examines the influence of military power, institutions, framing, and discourse on international agenda setting.  I have also been involved in other research identifying and coding international environmental treaties under the direction of Ronald B. Mitchell for the IEA project to evaluate the relative effects of treaties on state behavior. Other projects examine frames and individual contributions to public goods using experimental methodologies, a book project on creating data, and understanding uses of soft power resources in international affairs.
