Pencil Towers and the History and Development of the High-Rise

Rigid Frame

Rigid frams wystem are very inefficient. Each and every member must help in the transfer of lateral loads to the foundations through rigid connections. These systems are usually very regular and not of great height. The strength of the system depends upon the integrity of each of the elements that compose the whole.

The development of this system liberated structural designers from the bearing wall so that they could continue their skyward aspirations.
