2007-2008 Schedule

The mission of the University Theatre is two-fold. One is to provide an opportunity for University of Oregon students to participate in dramatic arts productions. These opportunities serve as a laboratory for Theatre Arts majors to apply what they learn in classes, but participation is not limited to majors only. All University of Oregon students are welcome to take part and may serve a production as actors, directors, designers, choreographers, playwrights, composers, musicians, technicians, dramaturgs, publicists, and arts managers.

The second mission of the University Theatre is to provide an opportunity for University of Oregon students and residents of the community and surrounding area to see live theatrical performances of high caliber at affordable prices. The availability of cultural events such as University Theatre productions is an important resource for the students attending the University.

Robinson Theatre

The Robinson Theatre Season is composed of three to five theatre productions and often one dance concert. Usually the plays are directed by faculty although advanced student directors are also given the opportunity to direct during this season.

CASTING:
Casting for Robinson Theatre shows is open to all students and members of the community. (Students are given priority and the casting of non students is limited to meet unusual character demands). Audition Notices are posted in the Villard Hall Green Room (basement) and the first floor call board in Villard Hall. Auditioners are usually asked for a prepared monologue (not to exceed two minutes) and will read from the play. Most directors continue with call backs by invitation.

Advanced students may fill design assignments. These assignments are made by the Director of University Theatre in consultation with the design faculty and the directors.

Second Season

Second Season consists of three to five plays presented in the Arena Theatre, which has a seating capacity of 80 to 100. Directors are usually graduate students, although faculty also direct as part of this season. Plays are typically chosen to suit the intimate production style and facility, often focusing on modern, small cast plays or experimental pieces.

CASTING:
Casting in Second Season productions is limited to registered students of the University of Oregon. Auditions are usually held the term before the play is to perform. Auditioners are usually asked to prepare a monologue of not more than two minutes as well as perform readings from the play. Directors often conduct call backs by invitation to finalize the casting. Audition information is best gotten through information on the call boards in the Green Room (basement of Villard Hall) or the first floor of Villard Hall between the Pocket and Arena Theatres.

Design assignments are made by the design faculty in consultation with the directors. Graduate students and advanced under-graduates are frequently assigned these positions.
