UNDERGRADUATE COUNCIL MEETING Minutes of March 5, 2002 Members present: Scott Pratt, Jim Imamura, Kate Kranzush, Hilary Gerdes, Gail Unruh, Kathy Roberts, John Nicols, Dave Hubin, Anne Leavitt, Wendy Mitchell, Karen Sprague, Herb Chereck, John Postlethwait, Faye Chadwell, Bob Zimmerman, Stephen Ponder Members absent: K.J. Park, Amanda Stocker, Craig Hickman, Marian Smith, Paul Engelking Meeting began at 8:35 Three-contact/four-credit Problem Two documents were distributed to the council for discussion: 1. The Provost’s position of 3-contact/4-credit hour courses, and 2. John Nicol’s draft of a letter to departments describing the 3-contact/4-credit problem and recommended solutions to the problem. The council discussed both documents at length. A sub-committee has been selected to revise the letter to departments to include not only a description of the problem, but also the mechanism to review solutions. The sub-committee members are Scott Pratt, John Nicols, Herb Chereck and Karen Sprague. They will send a revised draft to council members to preview before the next council meeting. Meeting times for Spring term The council meetings for next term will change to Monday at 8:30 AM and will begin on April 15. The meetings will be in Collier House, upstairs in meeting room A, on the following dates: April 15, April 29, May 13, May 27 (Memorial Day), and June 10. It has been suggested that May council meetings may need to be adjusted for an accreditation team visit to a council meeting in early May. The next council meeting will be on March 19, at 8:30 am, in Collier House meeting room A. Meeting adjourned at 9:14
