Welcome to Biology Education Review!
This newsletter is intended to encourage communication and the sharing of ideas
between college biology teachers who adhere to the following principles:
That
students need to understand scientific ways of thinking, the role of science in society,
and the nature of scientific knowledge, in addition to fundamental concepts in biology
That
students need to have opportunities to make connections between what they already
know, what they are learning, and issues that are important to them
That
students need to be actively engaged in their own learning, including asking their
own questions, constructing their own explanations, and communicating their ideas
to others
That
teachers need to think critically about their teaching, treating it as an area of
inquiry in which empirical evidence, sound theory, and frequent collaboration are
just as important as in their disciplinary research.
