The
American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air Conditioning
Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE) formed a student chapter at The University
of Oregon in Spring 1999. It is unique because it is the first student
chapter in the state and also because the student members are in
the Department of Architecture, not mechanical engineering! The
students are concerned about the importance of integrating environmental
systems with building design. ASHRAE holds important practical and
theoretical knowledge that can help architects to design better
buildings. Therefore the start of such a chapter is probably one
of the best ways to promote good building design for a sustainable
future.
The
University of Oregon ASHRAE Student Chapter activities are supported
by the Oregon Chapter for ASHRAE programs such as scholarships,
grants, speakers, tours of local facilities, student night in Portland,
mentors, and chapter budget. The student chapter has a rolling membership
throughout the year, with many activities planned for the upcoming
academic year and is encouraged to participate in as many activities
as possible. Come to a meeting, fill out a membership application
(it's the best deal around), have some pizza, look to an exciting
future! For more information, contact our officers. |
