Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Student Records



The final report of the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on Student Records is posted below. The committee met 4 times and forwarded two pieces of legislation to the UO Senate.

On 3 December 2003, the UO Senate voted to postpone consideration of US034-5 and to ask UO Senate President Bowditch to appoint a special ad hoc committee to deal with issues arising the debate.

Charge: After consulting widely with faculty, staff, and students,

  • a) to discuss and recommend language to amend the current OAR 571-20 regarding subpoenas of student records;
  • b) to discuss and recommend language for inclusion in the faculty handbook regarding such subpoenas;
  • c) to discuss and recommend language for inclusion in a policy statement to be issued by the university concerning procedures to respond to such subpoenas;
  • d) to frame an appropriate motion(s) for the Senate that would address the committee's recommendations in the above three areas.

The committee met and directed Committee Chair to Present a Draft Policy Statement on Student Records US034-9 for consideration at the April 2004 meeting of the UO Senate. The committee suggested language for the faculty handbook. Having completed its charges, the Committee adjourned, Sine Die. See Transmittal letter to UO Senate President Bowditch.
