Wayne Westling Award for University Service and Leadership

A follow-up discussion of the framework for establishing the Wayne Westling Award for University Service and Leadership was held during the November 14, 2001 meeting of the University Senate. Senators approved the suggestion of putting the Committee on Committees in charge of establishing appropriate award criteria, soliciting nominations, screening and evaluating candidates, and recommending a winner to be voted on by the senate. The details, as known to date, are listed below:

Wayne Westling Award for University Service and Leadership

The Wayne Westling Award for University Service and Leadership shall be awarded by the University Senate once each year to a faculty or staff member for outstanding and long term service and leadership to the University. This award is named in honor of Professor Wayne Westling, Professor of Law at the University of Oregon from 1979-2001, renown across campus for his unswerving and selfless commitment to faculty governance at the University of Oregon. The Committee on Committees, including the Senate President as ex officio member, shall be responsible for the establishing the selection criteria as well as the screening and recommendation of the candidate to receive this award. The committee's recommendations shall be presented to the University Senate for discussion and final approval by the final 2001-2002 Senate meeting (08 May 2002).
