The University Library Committee held five meetings between October and June of this academic year. Among the notable
developments and topics were:
-- Approval of proposal to merge the Orbis system with the Washington state
universities consortium, Cascade
-- Initiation of a one-year trial period for two-day loans of bound
journals to faculty and graduate students
-- Ongoing discussion of budgetary issues, including monograph purchases
and the serials review that took place this spring
-- Discussion of plans for a shared storage facility
-- Reports on the impact of the serials vendor Rowcom/Faxon's financial
collapse
-- Library fundraising campaign priorities
-- Knight Library's experiment with round-the-clock opening during spring
term Dead Week and Finals Week
-- Distribution of the Modern Languages Association's "MLA Report on the
Future of Scholarly Publishing" to interested parties
on campus
-- Discussion of the impact of the "USA Patriot Act" and related
legislation on library policies and practices
