Information on the Graduate Council (GC)
The Graduate Council (GC) has 12 elected faculty members: 6 members from
CAS (2 Humanities, 2 Social Sciences, and 2 Natural Sciences), and 6 members
from the professional schools and colleges (1 from each and 1 At-Large).
The Graduate Council serves as an advisory committee to the dean of the
graduate school. Among the powers of the Graduate Council is the authority
to establish general policies and regulations governing graduate study
at the university.
ELIGIBILITY: Nominees must be from departments, schools, and
colleges that grant graduate degrees, not including the School of Law.
No two persons from the same CAS department may serve at the same time.
Thus no person from English can serve this year. The term of office is
three years, June 16, 2005 - June 15, 2008.
The Committee on Committees and secretary, with help from the senate,
will fill out the ballot if an insufficient number of nominees is received
by the secretary. The secretary is instructed by faculty legislation to
remove from nomination persons who do not qualify under the rules established
by the faculty.
