I'm attaching the report of the task force on authors' rights in its final form. Also, here's the text of the proposed resolution that accompanies it. The task force is not committed to the precise language of the resolution, but we think it is adequate to express what we believe to be the sentiment of the Senate as originally expressed in US 07/08-17:

Moved, that the UO Senate
  • a. Endorses the report of the task force on academic freedom and scholarly communication;
  • b. Strongly recommends that all UO faculty members attach an author's addendum to any copyright transfer they sign for their scholarly work;
  • c. Asks academic department heads to organize discussions within their individual departments about the particular rights that are most important to authors in their discipline;
  • d. Requests that the appropriate university units move forward expeditiously to implement the additional specific recommendations contained in the report.
