Motion US98/99-2 -- Procedures for nominating an OUS faculty member to the State Board of Higher Education

The following resolution is listed as it was originally presented to the UO Senate rules committee. It may have been subsequently amended or changed. Please consult the Senate Minutes for further legislative history and the final version.

The Interinstitutional Faculty Senate requests that the following motion be passed by all senates in the Oregon University System.

Move that the following procedure be used to select candidates to be forwarded to the governor of the state of Oregon to fill a position on the State Board of Higher Education:

  1. Engage institutional faculty senates in identifying qualified and willing candidates for the position. Have each institution forward its nominations to a Nominating Committee their IFS representatives by January 15th 1999 (and January 15th of the year an opening for a faculty member on the board comes up again).
  2. A Nominating Committee, consisting of faculty from the Interinstitutional Faculty Senate, Association of Oregon Faculties Board, and other faculty leadership groups, will select no more than three names to submit to the governor.
  3. These names will be shared with each senate and other groups for endorsement prior to submission to the governor.
  4. The finalists' applications will be sent to the governor.
