Create a central mission/vision of campus diversity.

Create a central an inter-group body to facilitate exchange among various
groups and organizations already addressing diversity issues.

Continue to document the structures, works-in-progress and goals of the
UO concerning campus diversity.

Faculty Diversity Dialogue / Video & Departmental presentations; pledge
of diversity (policy & procedure) respect

Created a video over the summer to be used in stimulating and facilitating
dialogue in orientation, classroom, department settings. Video was presented
at the Department Heads Retreat in September.

Copies of the video, and supporting materials (e.g. discussion questions),
to be made available at places of resource such as the IMC and TEP office.

Worked on a draft of a proposed "Pledge of Respect." Draft needs to be
circulated and discussed for "trial period" by as many people as possible
over the 1999-2000 academic year.

Assessment of Diversity Research Institute: & ways to solicit &
sustain diversity funding.

Imperative need for a resource center to provide support services and training
for students faculty and staff.

Connected to the resource center: a research institute doing applied and
theoretical research while collaborating with the support service side
creating the only center of its kind.

This center needs to be a place that is integrated with every level of
the university helping to reach every school and office.

More Diversity in our Community: faculty/student/staff recruit & retention
strategies

Facilitating communication: e.g. Communicate what types of diversity-related
activities are already being implemented; create a diversity webpage
acting as a clearing house for diversity information.

Monetary support/grants for diversity: e.g. Award and recognize faculty,
staff, students, departments, schools, offices, and administrators for
their contributions to diversity on campus with recognition and a monetary
award at an awards banquet or diversity conference.

Improve efforts to recruit students from underrepresented groups (e.g.
hire admissions officers to specifically recruit members of such groups);
improve support services to retain such students (e.g. create mentoring
programs, a Multicultural Study Hall, an "Intrusive Advising" Model)

Institutionalize diversity immersion for all students attending IntroDUCKtion:
appoint steering committee of staff, students, and other interested parties
to formulate an agenda for IntroDUCKtion 2000 with Orientation Director.

Create Student Diversity Speakers Bureau

Work with Residence Life to develop diversity programs for first two weeks
of classes. A Week of Welcome assembly in Mac Court could introduce all
students to the Pledge of Respect and/or other diversity issues.

& continuing faculty orientation

Departmental based dialogues: an individual department understands the
status of diversity issues within their own department better than anyone
else does. Utilize this local knowledge and help keep it focused and well-directed
with guidance from outside facilitation.

Use of resources available at the UO: e.g. Office of Human Resources, Teaching
Effectiveness Program.

Institutional Support: University community members are looking for Administration
to make it apparent that diversity; is a priority at this institution.

how we utilize our curriculum, course evals; what might be done differently

A common course evaluation to be used by each dept. consisting of the 2
required questions, the 2 new questions approved by the Senate in 1998,
and questions designed by a committee of faculty, students, administrators
to assess the professor's commitment to diversity.

Improve visibility of diversity programs and issues via WWW as well as
written publications.

Develop a multi-perspective educational course that would address issues
of social and cultural diversity.

Charge: Affirming/sustaining diversity:
conduct code, hate speech, free speech

Main goal: Change campus climate by setting clear standards for administrative
response to bias related crimes (BRC).

Create a bias response team that would intervene in crisis moments; act
as an immediate and ongoing support system for targets of BRC; create opportunities
for dialogue; document information of incidents in order to dismantle discrimination
more effectively.

Educate campus community about BRC through preventative programming.
