Glen R. Waddell - Principles of Microeconomics (EC 201)

The words of John Maynard Keynes are quite fitting... "The theory of economics does not furnish a body of settled conclusions immediately applicable to policy. It is a method rather than a doctrine, an apparatus of the mind, a technique of thinking which helps its possessor to draw correct conclusions."

In teaching this class, my goal is for you to come away with an understanding of how economists analyze decisions made by individual agents - this "apparatus of the mind." While our primary focus may seem at times to be on those decisions made by consumers and firms, analyzing the behavior of decision makers in most any situation is fair game. (Q: Is the behavior of an impaired driver influenced by criminal law, or do drunken people not respond to legal sanctions?) Through this course you will see how individuals' needs and wants are allocated through markets. If you have any specific areas of interest please bring them to class.

I am not scheduled to teach this course in 2009/10. I hope to return to it in 2010/11.
