The educational foundations (EdF) major at the University of Oregon is designed for students who are passionate about social change and committed to shaping the future of education. Educational foundations equips you to be a thoughtful, informed, and effective change agent —ready to lead in economically, racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse communities.
Curriculum overview
Blends theory with practice, preparing students to understand the social, psychological, and philosophical dimensions of education in topics including educational psychology and sociology; curriculum theory, equity and inclusion in education; and anthropology and philosophy of education.
Courses taught by faculty with deep expertise and real-world classroom experience. Students gain hands-on experience through field placements and can study abroad in more than 25 countries.
Over 60 hours of diverse field experience and a curriculum rooted in equity, cultural responsiveness, and interdisciplinary learning.
Careers in education
Graduates of the Educational Foundations program pursue a wide range of impactful careers. Many go on to earn a master’s degree and teaching license through programs like UOTeach, which offers authorization for elementary, middle, and high school education. Other career paths include school counseling (requires a master’s degree), social work, nonprofit leadership, youth advocacy, AmeriCorps or Peace Corps service.
