After learning about Oregon’s past, students in the Culture, Ethnicity, and Nationalism course hoped to tell the state’s true stories. They built an interactive map of historical highway markers that travelers can use to learn what really happened, flagging sites with gaps and bias in Oregon’s racial and ethnic history.
For Talia James, growing up Jewish shaped her identity and academic path. Her religious studies courses deepened her connection with Jewish American history, leading her to work in Israel, get involved with the Jewish community on campus, and research the history and teaching of global antisemitism for her honors thesis.
