Hyothesis:

During the course of the night the internal temperature of the falafel kiosk will reach equilibrium with the external outdoor temperature.

Initial Hypothesis Turmoil:

Our initial case study was going to draw a comparison on the internal comfort levels due to temperature inside two of the local thirteenth street kiosks. Our first attempts at the hypothesis centered on which of the two kiosks, Java U and Alexander’s great falafel had the highest temperatures throughout the day. After further study we decided to study which kiosk would lose more temperature through the building envelope.

After conducting the experiment by placing temperature data logger throughout the two kiosks as well as one outside for a localized temperature we examined the data and tried to find information on the two envelopes. We were unable to attain the necessary information on the construction of the Java U’s building envelope and one of the temperature data loggers stop reading temperatures. These obstacles, plus a consensus of the group that there were too many variables that we couldn’t control resulted in a change of direction in the case study. The group decided to drop the Java and focus in on the Great Alexander’s Falafel since we had great building information from interviewing Alexander and a more concentrated subject to study.
