Handout: Internet Resources for Thai English Teachers and Students
From: Naraporn Chan-Ocha, Suchada Nimmannit, and Richard Boyum
Thailand-Oregon Videoconference, September 12, 2003

Technology is an AID for a teacher…not a replacement for a teacher.

Technology can:

  • Extend the reach of the average foreign language teacher.
  • Engage students and teachers in distant locations. Collaborate as one large Classroom community.
  • Provide instant access to unlimited supply of information.

Technology is:

  • A resource for teachers' continued professional development and classroom practice.
  • A resource for students to practice and interact with the English language.
  • An important tool for educators of all subjects.

Do the groundwork:

  • Check computer literacy.
  • Check availability of equipment.
  • Start becoming familiar with the computer and the Internet yourself.

Benefits for students include:

  • Raising computer awareness.
  • Acquiring keyboard skills.
  • Learning software (word processing, PowerPoint, etc.)

Internet skills include:

  • World Wide Web browsing.
  • Searching for information.
  • Emailing.

Life skills include:

  • Cooperation and collaborative learning.
  • Intercultural appreciation.
  • Global consciousness.
