Thai English Teachers and Students
From: Naraporn Chan-Ocha, Suchada Nimmannit, and
Richard Boyum
Thailand-Oregon Videoconference, September 12, 2003
Technology is an AID for a teacher
not a
replacement for a teacher.
Technology can:
- Extend the reach of the average foreign language
teacher.
- Engage students and teachers in distant locations.
Collaborate as one large Classroom community.
- Provide instant access to unlimited supply of
information.
Technology is:
- A resource for teachers' continued professional
development and classroom practice.
- A resource for students to practice and interact
with the English language.
- An important tool for educators of all
subjects.
Do the groundwork:
- Check computer literacy.
- Check availability of equipment.
- Start becoming familiar with the computer and the
Internet yourself.
Benefits for students include:
- Raising computer awareness.
- Acquiring keyboard skills.
- Learning software (word processing, PowerPoint,
etc.)
Internet skills include:
- World Wide Web browsing.
- Searching for information.
- Emailing.
Life skills include:
- Cooperation and collaborative learning.
- Intercultural appreciation.
- Global consciousness.
