Thailand-Oregon Videoconference, September 12, 2003

There will be a month's time in between the September videoconference program and Leslie Opp-Beckman's visit to Thailand to work with teachers in October 2004. During that time, teachers are invited to explore the resources on this web page and on the handouts listed below resources below.

Go to each site below and start by doing the suggested activity. As with all web sites, you are welcome to further explore and evaluate related resources that interest you.

    Task: Are your students sometimes shy? Are they noisy and you want some new ways to focus their attention? This web site with suggestions from other English teachers may have an answer for you. See what you can find!

  2. Lesson Plans from Internet TESL Journal

    Adaptable lesson plans in many skill areas for ESL and EFL classes of all ages.
    Task: Try to find a lesson plan idea that you can use in your class. Tell a colleague about it!

  3. Lesson Plans from Discovery

    Lesson plans in English for many content areas for primary and secondary learners.
    Task: Look for a lesson plan that might work well with a content or topic area in your class. Try it in your class, and share your results with another teacher.

    This web site has creative writing suggestions for ESL and EFL classes of all ages.
    Task:

    Task: How comfortable are you with telling stories out loud in class? Here are some great ideas for new ways to bring this traditional way of teaching in your classroom. Look for a story that interests you and fits your students' interests. If necessary, make adaptations.

    Task:
    Compare the reading materials at these three web sites. How do they differ? Is one is a better fit than the other for your students? If you don't like any of them, what kind of reading materials would you like to find instead?

  9. Index to Grammar Materials

    This page is an index to a range of materials created for teens and adult students.
    Task: Choose a grammar point from your class text or materials. Does this web site have a practice exercise that matches that grammar point? If yes, is it or is it not appropriate for the age and language level of your students?

  10. Holidays from The Tower of English

    This web page has a list of U.S. holiday sites with things to do at for each one.
    Task: Can you find a holiday and an activity that would work well in your class? If you don't have good luck at this site, try New Years Celebrations Around the World. How do your students' Thai holidays compare to some of these?
