  • I'm the SOJC Chair in Public Relations, teaching public relations and graduate theory and methods classes, at the School of Journalism and Communication. I recently joined the SOJC after 10 years as faculty at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill's School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where I directed the doctoral program. A former head of the Public Relations Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), I serve on the editorial boards of the Journal of Public Relations Research and the International Journal of Strategic Communication, and as the book review editor for Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly.

As a professor on the Spring 2005 Semester at Sea program, a global experiential-learning program, I taught and led field trips and practica in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. My major research interests include agenda building and critical approaches to public relations theory, with recent work focusing on development of a theoretical basis and practice matrix for international public relations.
