GRADE INFLATION AT THE UO

 

 

The report on “Trends in Grades” shows:

 

·     Distribution of grades in undergraduate courses “of sufficient size and regularity”

·     By course level (100, 200, 300, 400)

·     By schools, colleges, divisions

·     By student characteristics

·     By changes in faculty demographics

·     By comparison to national trends

 

From 1992-2004 at the UO

 

·     Percentage of A’s increased 10%

·     Percentage of As and Bs increased 7%

·     Undergraduate GPA increased by 5.1% (similar to national trends)

 

During the same years

 

·     Oregon high school GPA’s rose 5.2%

·     SAT scores showed modest increase in math, no change in verbal
