Incident solar radiation patterns are shown for February 21, 2006, during which initial measurements were made. These measurements were used to guide the placement of the bricks, as shown, for measurements beginning March 9, 2006. A table on the Solar Radiation Monitoring Laboratory website gives an approximate value of 3 kWh per square meter per day for the month of March in Eugene. This equals approximately 950 BTU per square foot per day. When multiplied by the area of glazing (adjusted for the angle of incidence) and multiplied by the infrared/visual transmittance of the glazing, we estimated 60,000 BTU of radiant energy that directly enters the Davis residence each day during the month of March.
